THE VON TRAMPS are an original rock band formed in the icy streets of Minneapolis, MN fronted by the power duo of vocalist/guitarist Jenna Enemy and guitarist Chelsea Oxbourough.
The group has an eclectic style offering a healthy blend of sludgy Ramones-esk punk tunes, cynical and slightly comedic homages to fellow Minneapolis group The Replacements, the energy and pulse of No Doubt, topped off with a flair for the dramatic reminiscent of our favorite divas from days of yore.
The band's debut release "Fast & Loose" (EP 2015) received national radio play the following year and accolades for the music video of the same name. The six song EP paved the way for the group to embark on a national tour and helped them establish "Tramp Camp," a type of DIY street team that not only lets the fans get close to the band; but also teaches them and gives them opportunities to be a part of the music industry. The group encourages "trampers" to be involved from attending free seminars (ex. how to run live sound, quick guide to marketing your band, how to book tours DIY and more...), designing merchandise, to pulling them onstage to perform with the band.
"I love what we do and I think it shows. I want to give people the same feeling that I get when I step onto the stage." Oxborough explains, "I think it doesn't matter whether or not you want to do this for the rest of your life-- we love to see someone's face, who's typically stuck in an office all day, light up as they sing back up vocals, dance for us, or play an instrument. I think it's empowering for them to take something they never thought they could do and show them they can...and most importantly, how fun it is "
Enemy adds, "Art is all around us and everyone is born creative. Our band gives people an opportunity to tap into that state of mind again when they don't get the chance in their everyday lives."
Toward the end of 2016, Enemy and Oxbourough began their most ambitious journey to date: releasing a full length album independently. Shacked up in an isolated log cabin for weeks, the girls began the pre-production process. They turned to Producer Dustin Phillips (The Ataris, All the Right Moves) to create what would become "The Future is Female." Principal recording sessions began in Bloomington, MN during the summer of 2017 and wrapped by fall of the same year.
The album "The Future is Female" is a conceptual album detailing a story of strength, anger, and persistence to overcome all told from a female perspective. The album is set to release March 2nd, 2018. The Southern Theater houses the release show slated for the same night in their hometown of Minneapolis, MN with a national tour to follow.
